I saw this headline from WebMD about the health benefits of lifting weights, and I couldn't help but post something about it. I feel like this is one of the most challenging ideas to get across to people that are losing weight - that lifting weights can also be a a helpful tool to increase metabolism and lose weight.
I've had numerous conversations with friends and acquaintances at the gym that boil down to a belief (by some) that the only way to lose weight is spend hours and hours each week on a treadmill. And while there are clear health and cardiovascular benefits to that kind of training, there seems to be this disconnect that prevents some people from understanding that lifting weights (1) actually burns calories when you're working out and (2) can increase the metabolism and burn more calories all the time.
I don't what the exact implications are, but I think this is an interesting question and issue.
